Kenny Gorka, bass player for the mid-1960s pop band The Critters died Thursday night at 68, and while The Critters may be long gone, Gorka became what was rightly called "an icon in the music industry" in the announcement on the website of historic Greenwich Village club The Bitter End , where he played back in the day, then booked since the mid-'80s. "Although he will be known for running the Greenwich Village landmark that developed and launched such artists as Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, and James Taylor, amongst countless others, the part of this man's legacy that needs to be pointed out is his dedication to helping unknown artists," wrote musician David Fagin in The Huffington Post .
